A mental health professional

Myra Gueco Bernecker, Ph.D.

As a mental health professional, I’ve been listening to people tell their stories for a long time.
Since high school, friends have often reached out to share their lives with me—whether it was about conflicts with a boyfriend, rumors circulating about them, or struggles with their parents. We would spend hours on the phone; I mostly listened, and they kept calling. Providing a safe, non-judgmental space felt incredibly rewarding. This experience led me to pursue a psychology major during my education. I went on to earn both a master’s and a doctoral degree while working in mental health. I still feel privileged to hear people’s stories, support their healing journey, and witness their transformation toward reaching their full potential.

Apart from my role as a psychologist, I am a wife and mother. My pronouns are she/her, and I identify as cisgender and Asian-American. I find enjoyment in skiing, walking, attending live music events, and practicing martial arts, pilates, and mindfulness.

our work together

Feel Seen & Heard.

Experiencing feeling seen, heard, felt, and understood, and having the opportunity to process and resolve issues are profound healing experiences I provide to my patients. Those I work with achieve positive outcomes—they find their ideal homes, successfully conceive after months of trying, leave toxic relationships, graduate from high school, attend their dream colleges, make career changes to stay at home, and more.

As a mental health professional, I focus on helping bright, high-achieving children, adults, and parents navigate challenges such as anxiety, life transitions, grief, and loss. My practice is inclusive and welcomes individuals who are BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and from diverse cultural backgrounds..

I have the ability to listen to a wide range of experiences, no matter how embarrassing, frightening, or painful they may be for my patients. My emotional strength creates a safe environment for them to engage in profound therapeutic work. You can catch a glimpse of my personality in my interview about the movie Inside Out published in the Pacific Sun.
